Mustangs paying tribute to the majesty of French automobile design.

This summer I brought my Citroën LNA to the San Marino Motor Classic, a pretty fancy shmancy car show out here in So. Cal. Plenty of rare and extremely valuable cars. They had a category for the 100th Anniversary of Citroën, so my 1500 Euro car got to mingle with the big boys.

Brown Countach Periscope. The sight of this made me pass out.

This is apparently the very first Woodill Wildfire. Only 300 of these fiberglass sports cars were sold with 285 of them being kits. This one was finished by the factory and has Willys underpinnings.

The one and only Jaguar (Bertone) Pirana (sic). This was a concept car built for the 1967 London Motor Show as a sort of Car of the Future. Designed by Marcello Gandini and based on an E-Type, Gandini pretty much recycled the design for the Lamborghini Espada.

1928 Bentley 4.5 Litre

This Mercedes 300 Wagon was custom built for a wealthy woman who would take it with her on trips to the French Riviera.

There was a guy who brought a bunch of awesome old Ghia Ford concepts from the late 70's/early 80's.

This 1938 Peugeot Darl’mat Sport Roadster is one of the prettiest cars I’ve ever seen.

Citroën DS ‘Le Dandy’ by coachbuilder Henri Chapron.

BMW Isetta Bubble Window Convertible. This is actually an extremely rare Isetta configuration with only something like 50 made. For some reason, most of them were sent to Uruguay which is where this car came from.

I showed a beat up Rometsch Beeskow in my last post. This is what a nice one looks like.

ASA 1000GT. These cars started life as a concept for a 4 cylinder Ferrari. The ASA company bought the design and produced around 75.

The 1953 Mercedes powered Hughes-Kircher Special.

This is a 1912 EMF Model 30 Roadster. To save weight, its fenders are made of fabric. Unbelievable.

The Ferrari 330 is such a pretty car. This was the most amazing shade of blue.

1972 Pontiac Safari Wagon with the clamshell tailgate. My dad had one of these when I was a kid and hung on to it for years because of that tailgate. “The only car they ever made like this!” he would say. (It wasn’t.)

Pretty cool show. That’s just a tiny percentage of the cars that were there. A lot of things I had never seen in person before. And, I think the LNA held its own once again.

Amazing, wish we had stuff like this in my area. The one interesting concours style show we had is at the best on indefinite hiatus due to lack of interest. Adenauer wagon (of which a few were built, IIRC) is an oddball old MB I have yet to see in person.

It sure is nice to go to something like after many Cars & Coffees with the same stuff every week. That Merc wagon was mighty impressive. The world’s prettiest and most practical tank.
